A Study on the Stress Factor of Mother with a Chronically Ill Child


Abstract
This study has attempted to identify the relating factors in the stress of mother with a chronically ill child, In order to provide a theoretical basis for establishing comprehensive nursing care of mother with a chronically ill child.
The Purvey was performed from January 14 to April 20, 1991 in the university hospital and mother with a chronically ill child was measured through a questionaire by using stress scale for mother with a chronically ill child.
The total number of the cases was 72
The results were analyzed by computer using S.P.S.S. program and summarized as follows£º
1. Stress factors of mother with a chronically ill child were classified into four, and their order of getting score was£º
illness condition and prognosis(M£º64.05), illness treatment(M£º60.71), family relationship and personal role(M£º55.93), interpersonal relationship(M£º46.28).
2. The relationship between the stress factors of mother and the general characteristics of mother showed as follows£º
In the factor related to illness condition and prognosis, illness treatment showed a statistical significant difference according to age(P<.05)
In the factor related to family relationship and personal role showed a statistical significant difference according to occupation, marital state(P<.05).
In the factor related in interpersonal relationship showed a statistical significant difference according to age, occupation, monthly income of family(P<.05), education level, marital state(P<.01).
3. The relationship between the stress factors of mother and the general characteristics of children showed as follows£º
In the factor related to illness condition and prognosis showed a statistical significant difference according to birth order(P<.05).
In the factor related to illness treatment showed a statistical significant difference according to duration of hospitalization(P<.05).
In the factor related to family relationship and personal role showed a statistical significant difference according to duration of hospitalization(P<.05), age, birth order(P<.01)
In the factor related to interpersonal relationship showed a statistical significant difference according to birth order, duration of hospitalization(P<.05), age(P<.01).
4. The relationship between the stress factors of mother and disease of children showed no statistical significant difference.
5. The relationship between stress factors showed positively correlated significant difference(P<.01) (p<.001).
